WHS Cadets March in Veteran's Day Parade
The Westland AFJROTC Cadets marched in the Columbus Veterans Day Parade on Friday, November 8th. Thirty six of Westland’s finest represented Westland High School and AFJROTC with pride and distinction. The Cadets were standing tall and proud as they marched down High Street to the roar of appreciative Veterans and parade onlookers lining the street.
Cadets Enjoy Great Learning Opportunities on Field Trip to Honda Plant
On October 3rd, cadets enjoyed a field trip to the Honda plant and Heritage Center. They learned some history of how Honda was started along with how vehicles are made and what it takes to become a good employee at a big company. To finish the day they enjoyed Donatos pizza.
Cadets Perform Color Guard Presentation at PTA National Convention
On June 20th, the Westland AFJROTC Cadets performed a Color Guard presentation at the Columbus Convention Center for the PTA National Convention. Cadets Connor Allen, Liberty Buckalew, Ashley Harrington, Hannah Hodge and Brianna Woods performed with skill and precision. The Cadets presented the Colors during the National Anthem, followed by the Posting of the Colors where they remained until retrieved by the Cadets again on Sunday June 23rd.
Great Experiences at the Lebanon High School Drill Competition
On April 6th, our Westland AFJROTC Cadets competed in their last drill team competition of the year at Lebanon High School. A total of 16 teams from multiple states competed in the event. While we didn't bring home any awards this time, all of our cadets performed well and represented Westland in a professional manner! SMSgt. Francis and Mjr. Boesiger are very proud of each of the cadets and have seen growth from all of them this year.
Good Showing at Tecumseh Drill Competition
On Saturday, March 9, our AFJROTC Cadets competed in a drill team competition at Tecumseh High School. A total of 17 teams from multiple states competed in the event. All of our cadets performed extremely well. The varsity unarmed inspection team won 3rd place and Liberty Buckalew won 1st place out of 200 cadets in the 1st year individual drill knockout competition. The cadets are to be congratulated on a job well done!
Our Annual WHS Drill Competition Went Off Without a Hitch!
Saturday, February 23rd, our Westland AFJROTC Cadets competed in a drill team competition here at home. A total of 6 teams from around the state competed in the event and all of our cadets performed extremely well. The Varsity Armed Infantry Drill Regulation (IDR) Team won 3rd place, the Junior Varsity (JV) Unarmed IDR team won 3rd place, the JV Color Guard Team won 3rd place, the Inspection Team won 3rd place, and the Armed Exhibition Team won 3rd place. Additionally, Michael Ritchie won 3rd place in individual Armed Exhibition, Connor Allen and Jesse Corry won 9th and 10th place respectively out of 200 cadets in the JV Knockout Competition, and Brianna Woods, Alexis Roth and Jesse Corry won 4th, 5th and 8th places respectively out of 250 cadets in the combined JV and Varsity Knockout Competitions. Well done cadets!
Wonderful Team Work at the Rutherford B. Hayes Drill Competition
Westland AFJROTC Cadets competed in a drill team competition at Rutherford B Hayes High School in Delaware, OH. A total of 12 teams from around the state competed in the event. All of our cadets performed extremely well for their first competition of the season. Brianna Woods took 2nd place out of 250 cadets in the junior varsity (JV) knockout competition. Liberty Buckalew took 5th place and Lacey Hurst took 6th place out of 350 cadets in the combined JV and varsity knockout competition. Additionally, the varsity infantry drill regulation (IDR) armed team took 4th place and the varsity IDR unarmed team took 6th place.
Veterans Day Ceremonies
The Westland AFJROTC Cadets participated in the Veterans Day Ceremony at Alton Hall Elementary school. The Cadets presented the Colors while a choir of students sang our National Anthem. 41 Cadets attended, representing the Cougar Corps. This is the second year Westland has supported this honorable event.
The Westland AFJROTC Cadets marched in the Columbus Veterans Day Parade today. What a great example of Cougar Corps pride. The kids marched proudly and represented Westland well. We showed Central Ohio the quality of the students at Westland, and even made it on 10 TV News!
WHS Cadets Collect Food for Local Food Bank
During our 4 day food drive, WHS cadets collected over 950 lbs of non-perishable food items for the local Military Veterans Resource Center food bank.
November 8th - Veterans Day Celebrations
On November 8th, Westland AFJROTC's Cadets presented the colors at the Ohio Dept of Public Safety Veterans Recognition and Awards Ceremony. The Cadets honored our Veterans with a Service Flag Ceremony honoring each Veteran as their respective Service song was played. Cadet Lexi Schumacher commanded the Color Guard, accompanied by Corey Falke, Jordan Schneider, and Brian Arthur. Cadets Ashley Harrington, Hannah Ross, Bethony Fay, Lexi Schumacher, and Corey Falke performed the Service Flag Ceremony.
