2016 Late Start Schedule for High School State Testing

There is a lot of information being provided on testing in the State of Ohio. Ohio’s State Tests measure student progress toward Ohio’s Learning Standards.

Ohio is making testing changes for the 2015-2016 school year. As part of the current budget law, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) will develop new tests in mathematics and English language arts with the assistance of Ohio educators and the American Institutes for Research (AIR). AIR currently provides Ohio’s science and social studies tests.

Like last year, Ohio’s State Tests will still be matched to Ohio’s Learning Standards and will focus on making sure our students are on track for success either in the next grade or beyond high school. The new tests will be:

  • Shorter than those given during the 2014-2015 school year;
  • Given only once during the year; and
  • Given closer to the end of the school year. High schools may also give end-of-course state tests at the end of the first semester.

The classes of 2018 (sophomores) and 2019 (freshmen) will need to earn a total of 18 points on seven end-of course state tests as one of the ways to meet their graduation requirement. The classes of 2016 (seniors) and 2017 (juniors) will still take Ohio Graduation Tests to meet graduation requirements. They will also take Ohio’s State Tests in American History and American Government.

This school year, the window for Ohio’s State Tests will be from April 5, 2016 to April 14, 2016. All South-Western City School District high schools will follow a late start schedule to accommodate the testing as follows:
