Are you interested in learning more about Engineering?  Is engineering a path you want to take in the future?  What about Logistics and supply chain management?  Did you know Columbus State has programs available that will get you the required education needed for these paths, along with a job?  The Modern Manufacturing Work Study and Logistics Engineering Technology Work Study programs at Columbus State allow students to get a two-year degree (that is transferable to a 4-year college), valuable work experience, and the potential to earn $55,000-$70,000 a year! 

Representatives from this program at Columbus State will be at Westland to speak with interested juniors and seniors on Friday, May 4 during 2nd period.  Their presentation will include some hands-on activities, and one that includes robots!  Students will need to sign up via Naviance....Be sure to print your confirmation as your pass!

Mount Carmel West is currently accepting applications for summer Teen Volunteering. This opportunity is for students age 16 and older currently enrolled in HS to gain experience in the hospital environment. Teens are invited to serve (1) four hour shift per week during their summer break. Applications must be picked up in person, by the teen, at the Mount Carmel West Volunteer Services Office and must be returned no later than Friday, May 11. Questions? April is School Library Month! Celebrate by participating in our WHS library trivia contest on the Library Twitter or Instagram (@westland_lib). Trivia questions will be posted on Tuesday and Thursday each week of April and the student who gets both questions right that week wins a prize!

 

April is National Poetry Month! Show off your poetry skills in the library with book spine poetry, blackout poetry or push-pin poetry. Each poem you create earns you an entry in our raffle giveaway! Come to the library to check it all out!

 

Darby Woods is having their final book fair of the school year and need volunteers to help out.   The dates are May 9-11th.  You can walk over and volunteer during your lunch and study hall.  Mrs. Gomer has the sign up sheet in the student office.

 

Prairie Township is seeking a limited number of students that live in the township to participate in its 2018 Summer Jobs Program.  This is an 8-week program that will begin on June 13 and run until August 7.  Eligible students are those that reside in incorporated Prairie Township, are at least 14 years old, and have completed grade 8, 9, 10 or 11 during the 2017-2018 school year.  Students will work 2-3 days per week, approximately 4 hours per day, between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00 PM.

Interested in throwing flags, rifles or sabers in the air? Do you enjoy working hard with your friends? Join the Westland High School Color Guard!! Clinics are April 23rd, 24th, 26th and 27th, and auditions are April 30th and May 1st - all from 6:30-8:30! Can’t wait to see you there!!

 

There will be a mandatory player-parent meeting for all players intending to try out for basketball next fall on Wednesday, May 2 at 7:30 PM in the. Failure to attend will lead to lost opportunities for summer work and games. Players and at least one parent must be present. Please mark your calendars now.
